The economic strength of the Dallas area is directly related to the strength of the central city and the economic health of the city of Dallas is directly related to a balanced tax base and quality of life between its two halves being that land mass north of Interstate 30 and the Trinity River and the southern sector. The GDPC acknowledges the intrinsic link. The Southern Dallas Development Task Force reviews policy and planning initiatives related to the City’s southern sector and this year will add its southern neighboring cities to this process. The task force goal is to prepare a response to these initiatives to appropriate governmental entities and/or chambers of commerce, economic development organizations etc. that reflects a position to influence the highest degree for positive change. The economic recovery for our region may very well lie in the southern portion of the Dallas area. The abundance and affordability of developable land, growing diversified workforce, uncongested interstate highway system, and a variety of neighborhoods and schools offer a perfect setting for new and expanded business development.
